The Issue At Hand

Fearless Karnataka is an initiative started by several groups in conjunction with several concerned individuals to deal with the recent spate of unprovoked and violent attacks on various individuals and groups in Karnataka, specifically Bangalore, starting January 2009. Our immediate goals when these attacks were at a peak was to provide a support network for victims, to design a “sensible” media campaign to highlight the issue without sensationalizing it, and to create a united front with which to approach higher authorities and discuss measures to tackle this problem. Although public support for the campaign increases every day, so far we have had only limited responses from the police and the state government. Going into the future we intend to continue providing a support network for victims, to create a more long-term media strategy, to continue to approach authorities to respond to this problem, and to create public awareness campaigns which encourage the public to step in and stop such incidents from taking place.

This website shall track incidents and related news - do get in touch if you have any information. Most importantly we shall keep up-to-date information on our various initiatives and events. If you have been a victim of an attack or wish to report one, please get in touch (see Contacts & Resources page). This issue is serious and the support for this initiative from lawyers, activists, artists, and the public in general is huge and still growing. If you wish to join in, you are certainly not alone. We are stronger when we are united, both individually and as a group.

The map below indicates confirmed incidents which we know about starting Feb 8th 2009. Most likely there are plenty more which have gone unreported.
